The Origin of TCS
— A common sense that began from a single life
Introduction
This common sense was not born from theory.
It was born from the life of a single human being.
That is
“The true common sense that regards the dignity of life as the fundamental value.”
The True Common Sense (TCS).
---
In the Midst of Despair
This happened when I was still a junior high school student, fifteen years old.
During that time, my mother attempted to take her own life three times.
A heavy and oppressive atmosphere filled our home.
I believe my mother was in deep suffering.
Yet at that time, I could not fully understand the depth of her pain.
But there is one thing that was engraved deeply in my heart.
Can a human being be driven this far into despair?
That was the reality I witnessed.
To live is painful.
I no longer want to live.
Such despair truly exists in this world.
And I saw that reality before my very eyes.
As a junior high school student, I could do nothing.
I could only watch, powerless, as these events unfolded.
As if to make matters even worse,
the shoe company run by my father went bankrupt.
A Turning Point in Life
Yet life is a mysterious thing.
At a certain point, my mother's way of living began to change.
It was not a dramatic event.
Rather, it was a quiet, yet unmistakable transformation.
Once, my mother had lived in
“a life that wished for death.”
But gradually, that life changed into
“a life that wished to live.”
Can a human heart truly change this much?
I witnessed that transformation up close.
A person who had been in despair
began to walk through life again.
That sight was a profound shock to me,
and at the same time, a deep source of hope.
If human life
can transform to such an extent,
then perhaps within human life
there exists a power still beyond our understanding.
This question continued to live within my heart
for many years thereafter.
My Mother's Life
Time passed.
My mother eventually reached the age of ninety-five.
She has a small body, not even 150 centimeters tall,
yet her arms and legs are long like those of a Buddha statue, possessing a quiet beauty.
Sometimes
she sleeps with a gentle smile on her face.
Each time I see her peaceful expression,
I find myself thinking:
How precious life truly is.
A life that once suffered so deeply
that it wished for death
gradually transformed, over many years,
into a life of quiet peace.
That image gave me a deep conviction.
A Conviction
Life can transform.
No matter how deep the despair,
human life possesses the power to rise again.
If there exists something
that believes in that power,
supports it, and encourages it,
then surely
it can save someone's life.
The Birth of TCS
Thus, within me
a certain intuition began to grow.
That intuition became
The True Common Sense (TCS).
A common sense that regards
the dignity of life as the highest value.
Not for the sake of the nation.
Not for the sake of society.
And certainly not for power or profit.
There is only one purpose.
To save even a single person.
If through this common sense,
even one person
who is in despair
can once again feel the desire to live,
then that alone
gives meaning to the creation of this common sense.
Conclusion
TCS was not born from a grand theory.
It is a common sense born from the transformation of a single life.
That is why I believe:
that human life
still holds infinite possibilities.
And to believe in that possibility—
that is the true common sense:
“The true common sense that regards the dignity of life as the fundamental value.”
The True Common Sense (TCS).
Finally
Why was TCS begun?
It was begun to save even one person.
